The falling warrior was being cast by Noack foundry in Berlin when Moore discovered that he had been nominated for a prestigious art prize awarded by the town of Goslar, northern Germany. On receiving the Kaiserring (Emperor’s ring) in 1975 Moore was commissioned to produce a work for Goslar. He chose this piece and sited it himself in the Pfalzgarten (imperial palace garden). Moore changed the sculpture’s title to Goslar Warrior.
