Originally intended to be sited in the new development of Tranquility Park, Houston; upon visiting the site Moore felt, however, that his sculpture would be better suited to a location where the architecture of its surroundings had less impact on the sculpture. Large Spindle Piece was later relocated to Buffalo Bayou Park.
I’ve always been interested in Michelangelo’s painting (in the Sistine Chapel) of God’s hand about to meet Adam’s finger. Sculpturally, its two points just about to meet but not quite. This work is using the same theme, only going out with the fingers on two bodies.
