Epstein Workshop

Workshop
12th March 2008
Seminar Room
Henry Moore Institute

This workshop offers the chance to hear and respond to short presentations about this recently acquired sculpture, given by an artist, curator, geologist, and those with expertise in funerary sculpture and in childbirth and its representation. These will open up discussion of the work in terms of materials, technique, subject matter and composition, in ways that enable us to think about this sculpture in contexts that are broadly cultural as well as art historical. Alongside these appreciations there will be responses by scholars who have specialised in Epstein’s oeuvre and in sculpture of the period. The day will conclude with Natasha Ruiz-Gomez’s talk which will look at the Machine Aesthetic in modern sculptures, including Epstein’s ‘Rock Drill’, which will be on show at in the main galleries.

The event is free, but seating is limited and so booking is required. Please use the form below to register your interest.
