Introduced by Paul Brobbel (Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre curator, Henry Moore Institute Visiting Research Fellow 2015-16). This screening looks at the work of New Zealand-born experimental filmmaker Len Lye (1901-80). Principally known in the UK for his GPO Film Unit produced films - abstract, colourful and rhythmic bursts of energy from the 1930s, Lye is less recognised for his kinetic sculpture of the 1960s. Both endeavours share a common origin: Lye's interest in composing with motion.
